Visiting the chicks in FS1

We visited the chicks FS1 have been caring for since they hatched over a week ago. The children were quiet and gentle as they observed and held the chicks.

Rainbow Words

Last Friday the children brought home their special book; 'Rainbow words'. As explained, the children should be encouraged to write out these words in many different colours until they are confident to spell them.
Rather than looking at all the words at once, focus on one or two a day, that way children won't become overwhelmed.

An extension challenge - use the word in a sentence "think it, say it, write it"

If there are any questions, please do ask.

Please return the Rainbow book on 11th May.

Competition winners

A couple of months ago we entered a competition to win an outdoor potion kit. Today it arrived from Playforce. The children loved playing with it today making pies, cakes and porridge.

Here they are in action,

Big Talk

Here is the Big Talk image we will be using on Friday morning.

Illustrations for Jack and the Baked Beanstalk, written and illustrated by Colin Stimpson.

What can you see?
Which story do you think it's from?
Who are the characters?
What has just happened?
What will happen next?

Can you write a sentence about the illustration?

Gold Book

Well done Jamie, Harrison, Joel and Preston. These four boys had a wonderful afternoon of learning when they found out about 'bats'. They were all interested to see what a real bat looked like, so together we looked on the internet to see one in detail. The boys drew what they thought a bat looked like and then after looking at one on the ipad, they drew another. They realised bats had 5 toes, something they hadn't originally drawn and the one in the photo had red eyes.

Flat Stanley

We read the story about Flat Stanley and decided to send our own Flat Stanley to schools in UK and overseas. The furthest one is going is all the way to New Zealand.

Flat Stanley ready to go in the envelope.

Getting ready to go and post our letters.

Here we are outside the postbox. Mrs Horn took some children inside to buy the special stamps needed to send the letters to Ireland, Denmark, Dubai and Gran Canaria.

We're looking forward to finding out about the life of children from these places.

Tiny Tweeties are coming to our school.

We enjoy singing and dancing to the songs by Tiny Tweeties, we always have them playing outside.

Here is a video of them singing Funky Dinosaur, one of the many songs we will enjoy.

Come back for photos of the session later in the week :)
