For Friday's Big Talk session I would like you to watch and listen to the song below.
Listen really carefully to hear what Louis Armstrong sings.

On Friday we will be drawing what we hear and will create a piece of art inspired by these words.

We are coming to the end of our Novel Study using the beautiful book, 'You be You'. For the Big Talk homework this week, I'd like you to tell your grown up about the story and all the things Adri sees during his adventure under the sea.

What did you see?

Big talk

The idea behind Big Talk is simple: To enable children to write it, they have to be able to say it.

Big Talk is all about sharing images which will encourage talk and develop a wider vocabulary.

This is our very first Big Talk picture. Have a look at this picture and talk about what you can see.
Make up stories about what is happening, what's going to happen.

On Friday we will share all our ideas.

We've started reading the traditional story Goldilocks and the three bears. Here's a version of the story if you'd like to read it.

It's a Wonderful World Big Talk

Today we listened to Louis Armstrong sing the song "It's a wonderful world" 

Based on what they heard, the children drew what they imagined as he sang the words.

"I see trees of green"

"I see skies of blue and clouds of white"

"The colours of the rainbow so pretty in the sky"

We then looked at the illustrations from the book of the same name to compare with ours.

After, we went to the school garden to see if we could see and hear the same things from the song.

Your Big Write activity is to write a sentence about what you can see or hear when you stand in your garden. I look forward to reading them.

Our current fascinations in FS2 are 'minibeasts'. We have enjoyed looking at photos of them in fact books and yesterday we (gently) trapped some ants to observe.

This week we will be talking about brushing teeth. In our story this week, we found out that Cinderella had the most beautiful smile, much nicer than Griselda and Prunella!!!
Can you remember why Cinderella had sparkly white teeth?

You can watch the Cbeebies toothbrush song and tell everyone how you keep your teeth healthy.

This week I have introduced a new display to support the children to talk about their learning. They are using phrases such as "I found it hard but I kept on trying, just like Mike the Knight"

The display shows the 9 'Characteristics of Effective Learning' 

When staff observe children for evidence to put into their profile, they are also looking to see which of the characteristics they are demonstrating in their learning.

The Big Talk homework is to talk to your child about their learning this week and try and see which characteristic it fits with. It might fit more than one.

I would be very grateful if you could leave a comment with an example of what you talked about and the characteristic.
